Take Time for Tisane

herbal_tisaneTisane (pronounced: tea-zahn) is a herbal or plant infusion and usually not made from the leaves of the tea bush (Camellia sinensis).

Herbal teas are often consumed for their physical or medicinal effects, especially for their stimulant, relaxant or sedative properties. The medicinal effects of certain herbs are discussed under herbalism.

Personally I’ve found that taking the right tisane for the right symptoms can help to boost your immune system and help you to overcome a more prolonged illness faster. Although Western science hasn’t proven the medicinal effects of herbal teas, I’ll take the placebo effect any day … because it works for me.

Tea for Two?

Do you have tea as one of your beverage offerings?

If you don’t … you definitely should.

I picked up some interesting facts from this new article: http://www.marketingforecast.com/archives/3444/trackback

Packaged Facts estimates the U.S. market for tea sold through retail and foodservice channels at $9 billion in 2009, forecasting a 5% increase in 2010. Steadily rising annual percentage gains are projected through 2014, when growth will reach 10% and sales will exceed $12 billion.

I would also add that consumers love to have loose leaf tea that they can steep at the table themselves.

You should offer them the options of: to-go tea bags, 1 cup infusers, and teapots.

Tea drinkers appreciate the self-ritual of steeping their own tea to their desired strength preferences.

Keep in mind that it’s a wise choice to offer tea so that groups of friends and family can still enjoy your establishment, even if they don’t drink coffee.
